Keepalives不是验票点说明的一部分。主人要求RFC提供3 个原因不要使用他们：(1)他们能引起十分好的联系被在瞬时失效期间下降，(2)他们消耗不必要的带宽，并且(3)他们关于按包收费的互联网花费钱。虽然如此，很多实施提供keepalive 定时器。
