这种设计的目的是设计一种用单片机控制自动螺旋总偏差探测器。在实验室里用传统的手工式螺旋总偏差探测器，所以实验基于传统的自动化改造的结构： 主要是对机械结构的传动部分和使用单片机控制部分修改。其中，传动部分基于对原结构，增加在这两个群体中的传动结构，一种是使用步进电机连接滚珠丝杠驱动器探头的纵向运动。由于步进电机步距角很小，移动，，通过球螺杆驱动探针，和后通电步进电机具有自锁功能，所以结构可以有效地实现准确定位的测量头装置 ；另一种步进电机通过连接到被测的齿轮减少机制来控制旋转，由于从齿轮减少结构连接和小角度的步进电机步使齿轮旋转精度较高。
